A case series of 8 individuals using nature-based practices as the primary integration modality.

This case series documents 8 individuals (ages 28–54) who used nature-based practices — primarily solitary time in wilderness settings — as the primary modality for integrating significant psychedelic experiences. All participants had undergone a high-dose experience (psilocybin or ayahuasca) within the prior 6 months and reported difficulty integrating the experience in urban settings.

The integration protocol involved weekly solo nature sessions (4–8 hours in wilderness settings), a daily outdoor practice (30+ minutes), and monthly group integration circles held outdoors. The series documents outcomes over 12 months. All 8 participants reported that the nature-based setting was more effective for integration than their prior urban-based attempts. Common themes: the natural environment provided a 'matching scale' for the expanded perspective of the psychedelic experience; the non-human world offered a non-judgmental context for processing; the physical engagement (walking, sitting, observing) grounded the abstract insights in embodied practice.

One participant's account captures the core finding: 'In the city, the experience felt like a dream I couldn't hold onto. In the forest, it felt like a memory of something real. The trees didn't need me to explain it. They just let me sit with it.' The case series suggests that the integration environment is not a neutral backdrop but an active factor, and that the traditional association between wilderness and inner work reflects a practical wisdom that modern, clinic-based models may be overlooking.
